Elmwood began life as a family business and it remains a family business, one that’s grown from a local shop fitting and bespoke manufactured joinery firm to a multi-service business operating the length and breadth of the UK.
Our story began back in 1972 when George Strachan, a time-served joiner and manager of a large Glasgow workshop, decided it was time for a different kind of company. A company that was as committed to personal service and value for money as it was to a superior snag-free finish.
As word spread of Elmwood’s customer-focused approach, the order book grew. So too did the size of the team, including the arrival of George’s son Alan who served his apprenticeship with Elmwood before working his way through the ranks and taking over as Managing Director upon his father’s retirement.
New era, same values
Under Alan’s leadership, Elmwood has continued to expand and evolve, with a move to new 20,000 sq ft premises in 2003 and the addition of a dedicated Museum & Heritage division.
The result is a combination of complementary services that can be commissioned individually or together for a full turnkey service. Underpinning each and every service however are the same family values that the company was built upon. Because when Elmwood build something, we build it to last.
