Elmwood partners with Redman for Discovery Museum design + build
Elmwood is working in partnership with Redman Design to transform the former Fashion Works gallery at the Discovery Museum, Newcastle into Destination Tyneside.
The new gallery will portray how centuries of migration have influenced modern day Tyneside. Explains Kylea Little, Keeper for Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums: “By including this part of our history within the Discovery Museum we hope to send out a strong signal about what we value as a nation, to foster a sense of belonging and, by presenting a historical perspective on migration, to promote tolerance.”
The design and build of the new gallery are similarly forward thinking, enabling visitors to shape their own exhibition experience as they explore four different activity zones – including a stunning centrepiece in the form of a circular audio visual theatre – followed by an opportunity to share thoughts and memories.
Adds Kylea: “Our aim is to deliver a world class experience at the Discovery Museum, and Elmwood and Redman have the creative vision to help us realise our objectives within this ambitious project. They’ve really gone all out to enable us to meet our deadlines and budget requirements.”
The new Destination Tyneside gallery is due to be unveiled to the public in July 2013.
