Designers: Four-by-Two in partnership with Contagious
Bespoke joinery and fit out: Elmwood
“No whisky reveals the character of its birthplace better,” says Talisker’s own marketing literature. And arguably, no distillery better expresses its character than Diageo’s new £1m visitor centre on the Isle of Skye.
Designed in partnership by Four-by-Two and Contagious, with fit out by Elmwood, Talisker’s brand message ‘Made by the Sea’ resonates throughout each and every detail of the visitor centre. Waves of timber, perspex, copper and fabric rise from the oak floor, each with their own story to share. A dry stone wall frames a timeline charting the malt’s key moments. Solid oak planks engraved with tasting notes are suspended from the ceiling to create a flexible not to mention eye-catching partition around the tasting room, the centrepiece of which is a bespoke oak and copper tasting table.
The retail unit is no less impressive with tension ropes and glass shelving to showcase the full Talisker range.
“It has been an absolute pleasure to work with Elmwood for the first time on this project.
St Enoch Fit Out was particularly challenging due to logistics and restrictions due to Covid but Elmwood and the rest of the team rose to the challenge and delivered a first-class cinema with minimal fuss. Organization, attention to detail and willingness to work along side a well-established team meant that we delivered one of the best cinemas we have completed.”
