The McManus, Dundee < BACK

Project team
Client: Dundee City Council
Designers: Campbell & Co
Bespoke joinery and fit out: Elmwood
Much loved for its distinct Gothic revival style building, The McManus underwent a multi-million pound restoration during 2006-2009 to create thoroughly modern visitor experience and must-see attraction.
The new look, designed by Campbell & Co, spanned five galleries and three public spaces, and Elmwood was commissioned by Dundee City Council to coordinate the complete gallery fit out including set works, scenics and the manufacture of plinths.
Ultra streamlined display cases ensure that the artefacts themselves take centre stage; eye-catching graphics and AV interactives add a fun, characterful touch; vivid splashes of colour punctuate the reception, retail and servery areas – with the overall impression being one of a refreshingly contemporary visitor attraction.
