About us
Elmwood began life as a family business and has grown from a local shop fitting and bespoke manufactured joinery firm to a multi-service business operating the length and breadth of the UK.
Elmwood Projects are a specialist fit-out contractor operating predominantly in the Museum and Heritage and Commercial Sectors who create bespoke joinery manufacturing products and setworks.
Our work scope extends to permanent and temporary museum exhibition and gallery fit-out, visitor experiences, heritage projects, commercial fit-out and specialist joinery packages
Our story began back in 1972 when now-retired managing director Alan Strachan’s father, a time-served joiner, decided to take the plunge and establish Elmwood as a joinery manufacturing company, with a focus and commitment to personal service and a superior snag-free finish.
Elmwood’s customer-focused approach remains at the centre of our culture today and as our order book grows, so too does the size of our team, where today we employ in excess of 60 dedicated and committed individuals.
After a move to a bespoke 20,000sqft manufacturing facility in 2003 and the addition of a dedicated museum and heritage division, the result is a combination of complementary services that can be commissioned individually or together for a comprehensive service.
Underpinning each and every service, however, are the same family values that the company was built upon.
In 2021 Alan stepped down as managing director of Elmwood Projects, retiring from the business and handing over the role of managing director and principal owner to former contracts director Stewart Arnott.
